Did you know that the Republican’s jobs plan proposes getting rid of the corporate tax?

Why is it that corporations have been able to pay 22% of the revenue for the majority of the 20th century, and now when they pay only 7%, it’s now a problem?

And why is it that the corporations that DO pay the tax only pay a 15% effective rate after deductions, which is one of the lowest in the industrialized world?

If China has a higher effective corporate tax than we do, what makes you think getting rid of the Corporate Tax will bring back jobs?

I did not know that. I will check into it.

However, let’s think about that. What could corporations do with that tax money…. I suspect, they could build more factories and hire more people, because they have extra money to expand and invest. Then with the more people working, then more Income Tax could flow into the treasury.

  2. No it doesn’t, you are lying. It does work to lower it for two obvious reasons. The first is that we have some of the highest corporate taxes in the world, which tends to chase businesses out of the US. The other is that corporations don’t pay the taxes, the middle class pay them through marked up prices.

The obvious question that comes from that is why the left wing is so intent on destroying the middle class through ever higher prices and chasing jobs out of the country?

  3. Of interest, federal welfare queen Fisker Automotive has reportedly agreed to transfer extensive levels of its US-funded technology to China, in return for being granted access to sell a few of its super-expensive, boutique cars over there — doubtless so that the Cinese can tear them down to the last nut & bolt, and copy even more of the technology.

Another Chinese-oriented tech transfer junkie is General Electric. They bring good things to light… in China. Like lightbulbs, avionics, medical imaging equipment, railway locomotives and more… I like to refer to GE as "Obama’s Halliburton," which is (I admit) unfair to Halliburton but always shocking to liberals.

  7. taxing corporations is foolish, but then so is taxing people’s income.

every cent a corporation has or ever will have belongs to someone — supplier, customer, employee, lender, or owner. then you ‘tax’ the corporation, that money is taken away from some combination of the above five groups of people. It follows that taxing corporations is simply a concealed method for the government to levy taxes on the people while trying to fool us about the total level of government and, inherently, volume of waste generated by government.

taxing income in general is silly. taxes act to reduce the amount of the activity taxed and thus taxing income reduces the people’s income. That’s not the goal — the goal is to encourage people to generate as much income as possible.

The VAT [value added tax] is far better at maximizing the people’s welfare than income taxes.

ps — the ‘owners’ of corporations are very likely to turn out to be you in the form of your pension or your life insurance. to the extent that taxing corporations takes the money from the ‘owners’ — that’s your future you’re taxing. Bon voyage.

  9. Donovan, did you realize that it isn’t actually corporations that pay that tax. but the consumer that buys their product or uses their services?

  10. Corporations don’t pay taxes, consumers do. The taxes are added to the price of the products. Lower prices means more demand. More demand means more jobs. There are also over $1 trillion in multinational corporate profits overseas that would be repatriated.
