Why is the federal income tax withheld box blank on my W2?

I just got my W2 in the mail and the federal income tax withheld box is blank. Does this mean I won’t be getting anything back from them?

I have to assume, based upon the information provided, that your income did not require Income Tax to be withheld. Therefore, unless you are eligible for other credits, such as Earned Income Credit, you will unfortunately not be receiving a refund. Here is an IRS link re: EIC to see if you are eligible.

  2. Yes, unless you are eligible for EIC. You didn’t have anything withheld, so there is nothing to refund. If you owe any tax, and don’t get EIC, you’d owe something when you file.

Check your W-4 and be sure you didn’t file as "exempt" if you didn’t mean to.

  3. My W2 is blank also….I claimed 4 on my W4 when I was hired. That means you want the least taken out for federal taxes. But I also have children which gives me Earned Income Credit (EIC) so I am getting back around $5,000…and I only made $12,000 ( I have 3 kids)
