What if your parents did not have to fill out tax return forms?

MyAwards on my UC Davis accounts says I still have to turn in my parents’ tax return forms, but my father is retired and my mother is unemployed. What do I do if my parents do not have any Tax Return forms to turn in?

Usually the school sends you (or directs you to a website) to fill out a form in place of turning in the parents tax forms. It is usually called a verification worksheet where you check on there that your parents are not legally required to file a tax return. (Many people still have to file taxes despite being retired and despite being unemployed.)

Both unemployment and retirement can be (and usually is) taxable income. If your parents are legally required to file an Income Tax return, your school will not give you any aid until they do. You might just want to double check that they indeed don’t have to file, and not that they just aren’t
